How we came about

How Neat and Chic started

Neat and Chic was founded in August 2022 by Annette.  The name was given to me by one of my closest, dearest and longest best friends, Clare.

I have been battling with my weight for a few years now due to health reasons, and buying clothes has become a really traumatic experience.  I just never seem to be able to find something that fits me well, and that doesn't make me look like a squished sausage... you know the look, when it seems someone just isn't able to accept they no longer fit into a size 8, but they insist on squeezing into it even though they have been a 14 for years now.  I felt like I looked like that every single day.  I went on a mission and threw out every single piece of clothing that didn't fit me, and I was left with basically nothing.  The problem:  I cannot find a decent pair of jeans that doesn't cling to me like a second skin, or a flattering top that won't bulge at my stomach making me look about 50 weeks pregnant or a skirt that doesn't ride up around my breasts because it just simply doesn't fit my waist or middle.

And so, Neat and Chic was born!  If I couldn't go to the clothes to buy them, I was going to bring the clothes to me and I figured that I cannot be the only South African struggling to find clothes that fit me properly, without having to sell a kidney on the black market to afford it.

Thus, I started the search. The search for big enough bras, comfy, flattering jeans, and my all time favourite, flowy, soft and oh so enchanted, Kimonos. I love a kimono. It is so versatile: Night out with the hubby/partner/gf - your person, but not sure how to hide the ever extending tummy and love handles? KIMONO! Having a pool party with your beloved friends but don't want to be the square (yes - I am that old, I use the word square,) and sit there in sweatpants and an oversized T, KIMONO! Grocery shopping and you don't feel like changing out of the comfy shorts and plakkies, KIMONO! Really, I love a Kimono, and even if you are not intent on hiding some areas of concern, it is always such a classy elegant look. So check out the kimonos page and don't waste anymore time because this item is a must-have in every woman's cupboard.
